If:

you are using new intel mac.
are using CS 2.

and try to use the pathfinder pallet. the application will crash.

the fix?

reopen the app. close the appearance pallet. make sure that it wont open again when you restart. then restart the application. and it will work fine. until you reopen the appearance pallet.

apparently the appearance pallet is evil.
